Yesterday, Old Dean Cllrs Lewis Mears and Shaun Garrett met with Cllr Trefor Hogg and Michael Gove to discuss the Old Dean Community Group’s petition to revitalise Dean Parade.

Commenting, Cllr Lewis Mears said:

"I caught up with other local Councillors Cllr Shaun Garrett and Trefor Hogg with our MP Michael Gove. We spoke to residents in Horseshoe Close and Bracknell Road about the Old Dean Community Group’s petition to use the Levelling Up bill’s powers to open up more of the units on Dean Parade. Residents had extremely positive feedback and we gained many signatures.

"It was also a fantastic opportunity to pop into the newly renovated Family Cafe for lunch. We caught up on a number of local issues over this lunch including Car Parking charges - where the new Lib Dem Executive decided to kibosh a petition signed by 1500+ people to stop the extreme charging increases. We all still regularly get resident complaints about Accent Housing and so we offered an update to Michael on this.

"As always we’d love to hear from you."

Michael said:

"Yesterday, I was very pleased to pop into the newly-renovated Old Dean Café. I was delighted to be joined by local Councillors Trefor Hogg, Shaun Garrett and Lewis Mears, before heading out to knock on doors.

"We talked to residents about Trefor’s petition to get the vacant units on Old Dean Parade open once again, utilising the powers afforded to local authorities through the Levelling-up and Regeneration Act."

Commenting on the Levelling Up Bill, Cllr Trefor Hogg said:

"Thanks to Michael Gove we have the key to get those abandoned and empty shops back open once more."
