Katia Malcaus Cooper was elected to Windlesham Parish Council in 2012.

Katia is also Chairman of the Briars Centre Community Association, which she has done since 2012. The Briars Centre is a Community Centre in the heart of the Briars estate in Lightwater and home to the Briars Nursery, Rebekka’s Dance Academy and Curley Park Rangers who use the field at the weekend.

She is the founder of the Lightwater Resilience Plan, which looked after the village during the COVID pandemic, fulfilling 1000 requests for help between March and June. She is also a founding member of the newly formed Lightwater Connected, a voluntary organisation bringing together volunteers and resources from Lightwater Care, LIVE and the Lightwater Resilience Plan, and making them accessible via one organisation.

In her professional life, Katia is a Communication Professional currently working in Community Engagement and Public Affairs.

Katia is a recipient of the Lightwater Community Award, a resident led award system promoted via the Lightwater Community Facebook Page.
