In an effort to promote active travel in Lightwater, Surrey County Councillor Rebecca Jennings-Evans has successfully secured funding from an ITS bid to have new D-Ring bicycle racks installed in the village.

These new D-Rings bicycle racks will provide additional areas for cyclists to secure and lock their bicycles, creating a more bike-friendly environment in Lightwater. Studies from similar initiatives in other communities have shown that having well-implemented push bike infrastructure helps to increase footfall and economic activity in an area, particularly where cycling is actively promoted.

Commenting, Cllr Rebecca Jennings-Evans said:

"So pleased to have been able to deliver D-Ring bicycle racks in Lightwater Village Centre to boost active travel in our community and encourage dwell time for our businesses and communities.

"It’s been a while in the making but can’t thank Paul Deach enough for his support, knowledge and assistance with this project and the officers at SCC for getting them delivered. Funding came from my ITS Revenue fund. I really hope this will entice more residents to cycle to the village."

Cllr Paul Deach stated:

"Kudos to Councillor Rebecca Jennings-Evans for her unwavering commitment to our community's well-being.

"Her leadership in spearheading the installation of secure bike D-Rings in Lightwater is a testament to her dedication. This worthwhile project not only promotes active travel but also enhances the economic vitality of Lightwater village. Rebecca's foresight and initiative are truly commendable, and I'm grateful to have collaborated with her on this impactful and worthwhile project. A great example of where small things can make a big difference."
