Jonathan Lord – West Surrey Councillor for Worplesdon
Jonathan was elected as a West Surrey Councillor for the Worplesdon ward in May 2026. Alongside Cllr Bilal Akhtar, he represents the residents and villages of the ward and has been appointed to the Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
Jonathan read History at Merton College, Oxford before pursuing a career in advertising, including serving as a Director of Saatchi & Saatchi.
He moved to Surrey with his family in 2002 and went on to serve for three years as Chairman of Guildford Conservative Association and for 14 years as the Member of Parliament for Woking. Earlier in his public service career, he was a Councillor for the City of Westminster from 1994 to 2002, including two years as Deputy Leader, and a Surrey County Councillor from 2009 to 2011.
As Woking’s MP, Jonathan represented the villages of Normandy and Pirbright for 14 years. During that time, he chaired local Flood Forums, helped lead a highly successful defence of local green belt land and supported efforts to secure significant funding for the Pirbright sports pavilion and the Normandy shop and café.
Jonathan also knows the villages of Worplesdon well from his years working closely with Anne Milton MP while Chairman of Guildford Conservatives, giving him a longstanding connection with the communities he now represents.
