Frimley Park Hospital: Facts, Not Speculation

New Frimley Park Hospital Site - Facts, Not Speculation - Reference Frimley Fuel Allotments

Several Surrey Heath Conservative representatives attended the recent Joint Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee (JHOSC) meeting to hear directly from senior NHS leaders about plans for the replacement of Frimley Park Hospital and wider healthcare changes.

Given the volume of local discussion, it was important to focus on facts rather than rumour.

No Final Site Decision Has Been Made

Let us be absolutely clear: a final site has not been decided.

That was confirmed at the meeting and has also been confirmed in writing by the Minister of State for Health in correspondence with Surrey Heath Borough Council.

The formal site selection process is still ongoing.

Some commentary has implied that the outcome is predetermined, or that the decision is being retrofitted to the Frimley Fuel Allotments (FFA) site. That is not supported by the evidence presented to the Committee.

What we were told:

  • The site selection process is not complete
  • Shortlisted sites remain under active assessment
  • Further detailed work, including traffic modelling, will take place
  • An announcement on a preferred site is likely in June
  • The process remains open until land is formally acquired and approved through the full business case stages

There is a significant difference between political speculation, the highest scoring choice emerging through professional assessment, and a legally final decision. We are not at that final stage.

Our Position as Surrey Heath Conservatives

We support a rigorous, professional and transparent review process led by the experts responsible for delivering this vital national infrastructure project.

We are clear on three points.

First, we need a replacement hospital.
The current building, affected by RAAC, must be replaced as soon as safely possible. Securing a modern, fit-for-purpose hospital for our community is not optional.

Second, the right decision must be based on evidence.
Clinical need, patient access, blue light response times, transport links, infrastructure deliverability and value for taxpayers must guide the outcome. This is a £1.5–2 billion public investment and must withstand proper scrutiny.

Third, we are not campaigning for or against any specific site.
Our focus is on ensuring the process is robust, transparent and defensible. The right site must be chosen through proper professional assessment — not political pressure.

Clear Communication Is Essential

There was broad agreement at the Committee that communication has not always been as clear or accessible as it should be. Not everyone uses social media, and residents deserve straightforward updates through multiple channels.

As the process progresses, transparency and proper public engagement will be critical.

Responsible Debate Matters

With West Surrey Unitary elections approaching, it is inevitable that this issue will attract strong views and campaigning language.

However, implying that a final decision has already been taken, or that the process is closed, risks misleading residents and unnecessarily inflaming concern.

The formal site selection process remains ongoing.

As Conservatives, we will continue to attend meetings, ask questions and ensure transparency - without prejudging the outcome. We believe in responsible governance and evidence-based decision-making.
